Wrap. It. Up.

July 22, 2009

This report makes me gosh darn angry.

NPR.org reported that teen pregnancy rates are up. STD rates and HIV rates are up, too.

Teen pregnancy rates were down in the 90s and early 00s. Also, most teens who were sexually active reported that they used condoms.

In 2006, teen pregnancy and STD rates began to rise.

The report discussed that even though teens now have greater access to health information online, they need help interpreting what they are reading.

Teens also don’t know where they can purchase protection, such as condoms, because of the lack of information they are receiving in sex education classes.

I was a lucky teen. My parents taught me about safe sex when I was a kid. Also, I was a teen who didn’t trust anyone. I learned how to protect myself.

I wish more teens knew how to, or wanted to take control of their own sexual health. It’s such a simple thing to do. I hope something changes over the next few years.

Wow, thanks Bush administration….abstinence only education is obviously really effective. This report makes me sad.

I know! It’s horrible. You’d think the system would want to change to protect youth, but it never does. Very depressing indeed.
