Fairview Cemetery — Madrid, Iowa — words

September 21, 2012

About Fairview Cemetery:

'bout it

“Fairview Cemetery was founded by Sam Luther and was originally a private cemetery for the Luther family. In later years, {the cemetery} was open to the general public, but with a section still devoted to the Luther family.

On May 24, 2008, Fairview Cemetery was formally dedicated by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, VFW, AMVETS, BSA and volunteers, along with a loyal group of historians to remember the sacrifices paid by the Civil War Veterans interred here.”

Most graves are 100-plus years old. Cornfields surrounded the graveyard. It was very small.

Very decorated.

Ah, life.

Most graves contained families. Lots of kids.

A family

Typical of old cemeteries, I assume.
